As mothers, we naturally want what is best for our children. That is why we strive every single day to teach, nurture, and protect them. But in the midst of our busy routines and the struggles we face while raising them, how many of us lift our children up to God in prayer? Prayer is one of the most powerful tools that we have as believers. Yet many of us struggle to approach God with our requests. Sometimes, we simply do not know what to ask for. Most times, we doubt that He even hears us when we pray, even though it is the furthest thing from the truth. In this blog, we will be exploring 3 meaningful things we can ask God for concerning our children so we can experience the peace that He gives and love them without fear.
1. Pray for Their Safety and Protection
We can’t always be there to stop every bad thing from happening to our children. It becomes harder and harder to protect them as they get older and gain independence. Instead of letting ourselves continually worry about them, we can Pray that God will protect them when we’re not there to shield them from the dangers of life. We can then rest assured knowing that He hears us and holds both our lives and our children’s lives in His hands.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
I ask You to protect my children from evil and shield them from the dangers of this world. Give them understanding to make the right choices, and give them strength to resist temptation. Be with them wherever they go. I know that You will care for them. You will guard their lives like a shepherd guards his sheep. Thank you for listening to my prayer, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
2. Pray for Their Health and Well-Being
In a world full of sickness and disease, it seems like we have a million and one things to worry about concerning our children’s health. It also doesn’t help very much that we are aware of nearly every potential health risk there is imaginable thanks to the internet. From global pandemics to mental health crises and everything in between, the list of reasons to worry for moms is endless. However, God calls us out of that world of worry and into a place of intercession for our children. We can call out to Him in our uncertainty and trust that He is in control. After all, who better to turn to for the health and well-being of our children than the One who created them?
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come to You with a heart full of love and gratitude for my children. I ask for Your divine care and protection over their health and well-being. I ask that you strengthen them in body, mind, and spirit. Please guide them in making healthy choices and bless them with the energy they need for each day. Watch over them, protect them from illness and injury, and help them to grow in wisdom and grace. Thank You for Your unending love and care. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
3. Pray for their Spiritual Growth and Relationship with God
As women of the Christian Faith, it is no question that we care deeply about our children’s spiritual well-being. While we’re proud of their accomplishments and achievements, to most of us, nothing is of greater importance than their relationship with the Lord. That is why we share our faith with them, read the Bible with them, and take them to church. We hope that our efforts are not in vain and that they come to know The Lord Jesus and be saved. However, we must remember we do not have to carry the burden of their salvation upon ourselves. We can pray that God draws them close to Himself and that they will receive the Gospel with joy. We can ask God to open their hearts to Jesus and to help them understand the importance of having a relationship with Him. Then, we can trust that God will cause our prayers and efforts to bear much fruit in our children’s lives for His glory.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
I lift my children up to You, asking for their salvation and a deep, personal relationship with Jesus. Guide them to understand Your love and grace, and help them to accept Jesus as their Savior. Nurture their faith and spiritual growth, filling them with wisdom and understanding. May they grow strong in their relationship with You, seeking Your guidance in all they do. Surround them with Your love and lead them on the path of righteousness. Thank You for Your endless love and mercy. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Being a mom is undoubtedly a journey filled with many joys and many challenges. By giving our fears and anxieties to the Lord in prayer, we can be free to love and nurture our children in the best ways that we can. What are some of the biggest concerns you face as a mom?
